Who’s seated

Portrait of The Buddha

The Buddha

c.563–483 BC · Ancient India

Siddhartha Gautama, the prince who left a palace to face suffering directly and awakened beneath the Bodhi tree. His teaching — the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path — traces suffering to craving and offers a practical way beyond it through ethics, meditation, and clear seeing. From it grew one of the world’s great contemplative traditions.

Portrait of Rumi

Rumi

1207–1273 · Persia

Persian poet, scholar, and Sufi mystic whose verse — the Masnavi and thousands of lyric poems — is among the most beloved and widely read in the world. His work fuses spiritual longing, love, and the search for unity into imagery that crosses every culture.

Portrait of Laozi

Laozi

6th century BC · China

The old master of the Tao Te Ching — eighty-one brief chapters on water that wears down stone, leaders who serve, and the strength found in yielding. Half of Chinese thought answers to him.

Portrait of Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi

1869–1948 · India

Lawyer turned leader of India's independence movement, who forged nonviolent civil disobedience — satyagraha, "truth force" — into a discipline that ended an empire's rule. He lived his politics: spinning his own cloth, fasting, walking 240 miles to make salt.

Portrait of Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa

1910–1997 · India & Albania

Albanian-born nun who left the safety of a convent classroom to found the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta's poorest streets, building a global order devoted to the dying, the abandoned, and the unwanted. Nobel Peace laureate who kept working in sandals.
