The great systematizer

Plato's student for twenty years, Alexander's tutor for three, Aristotle then founded the Lyceum and did something no one had attempted: he organized knowledge itself. Logic, ethics, politics, biology, rhetoric — his lecture notes became the syllabus of civilization for nearly two thousand years.

Virtue as practice

His deepest teaching is the least glamorous: excellence is a habit. Courage, honesty, generosity — each is a skill built by repetition, sitting at the midpoint between two failures (cowardice and recklessness, stinginess and waste). You become just by doing just acts, until the doing becomes the being.
